What is an industry council, and why should every community have one?
Coachella Valley, California has one of the strongest industry council structures, and we want to share it with you. You will learn how this community drives talent development and business expansion related to their target industries.
Take a second to imagine the following:
You can list the target industry sectors for your community. They were chosen based on opportunities for growth, job creation, role in regional development, and connections to other industries.
Each targeted industry sector has its own council. For example: there is an industry council for healthcare; one for engineering, one for cyber security, and so forth.
ALL relevant stakeholders are members of these councils. That includes stakeholders such as: K12, post-secondary, and technical schools; students and parents; corporations and business partners; community/civic partners; and economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, and workshop development organizations.
Industry council meetings are effective, because they are designed intentionally with:
One vision.
A clear call to action.
When you know your target industries; when you have participation from all key stakeholders; and when they all share one vision and clear call to action… can you see the powerful potential of a unified council? It’s an amazing force to see in action!
